2008 "Judge Family Vineyard" Syrah
$35 - This wine is Sold Out
The 2008 Judge Family Vineyard Syrah is from one block in this up and coming vineyard. Judge Family Vineyard was planted in 2000 in the Bennett Valley, in Sonoma California. The cool maritime climate allows for long hang time. A mixture of volcanic and rocky alluvial soils allows Syrah to thrive in this climate. In the winery we fermented a third of the fruit in a small stainless steel tank with 100% of the stems. This wine was treaded down by foot twice daily until dry and then barreled in 100% once filled French oak barrels. This heightened the aromatic complexity and gave a rustic quality to the tannins. The second fermentation was treated to 100% destemming and a long and cool soak, with two punch downs per day, we treated this much like our Pinot Noir. The third tank was 100% destemmed, allowed a long cold soak, punched down 3 times per day until half the sugar was fermented and then pressed into two new Meyriuex barrels to finish primary fermentation. The resulting wine was lush and intense, with soft fruit and a velvety texture in the mouth. From these three wines we created one.
The 2008 Judge Family Vineyard Syrah shows off its darker side with blueberry, cassis liqueur, and dried herbs. The palate is rich and decadent extending long into a beautiful finish.
